Bambu on Holdenhurst Road serves up authentic Cantonese cuisine in a modest, unassuming setting that reflects a straightforward local dining experience rather than flashy dining theatrics. This Chinese restaurant has carved out a niche for those who appreciate traditional flavours without the fuss—perfect for casual dinners or small celebrations where the food takes center stage.

The interior is humble and inviting, with friendly staff who keep things efficient and approachable. Diners often comment on the attentiveness of the chef-owner, who checks in to ensure the dishes hit the mark, lending a personal touch that feels more like a neighbourhood spot than a generic chain. It’s the kind of place you might come to after work or for a low-key birthday meal with friends or family.

On the menu, staples such as Steamed Prawn Rice Rolls, Sweet and Sour Chicken Fried Rice, and Spareribs in Capital Sauce showcase classic Cantonese flavours. There is also a variety of stir-fried vegetables and well-executed soups like hot and sour or wonton that complement the main dishes without overpowering them. The portions are generous without being overwhelming, making it a practical lunch or dinner spot.

The atmosphere is relaxed but lively enough to accommodate small groups and family dinners. Bambu tends to be busier during meal hours, especially around weekends and special occasions, so visiting early evening can be a good way to avoid any wait. There is also a takeaway option, popular with locals who crave solid Asian flavours at home—particularly the stir-fried beef ho fun and salt chili king prawns, which get repeat orders.

One thing to note: drinks like lemon tea skew on the pricey side relative to the overall meal cost, and some diners have found occasional unexpected service charges, which might feel out of step with the otherwise straightforward pricing.

In summary, Bambu works best for those looking for authentic Cantonese dishes in a no-frills environment, with enough variety to satisfy a range of tastes and the kind of down-to-earth service that makes you feel like a regular before long.

Humble and quaint place for a quick meal. Portion size is decent, their lunch box option is good. Service was quick and the chef/owner was very friendly and kept checking with us regularly. Would not recommend having teas (cold/hot) as it's overtly priced and not worth the money.

One of the best asian takeaways in the area, ordered stir fried beef ho fun lots of times and it's always amazing. Salt chili king prawns also so tasty. I order from here whenever I can, hopefully will dine in some time.

It was two months ago and it’s now I got a chance to review :) On the New Year’s Eve (31st Dec 2024) I went here along with my family members to try a Chinese Restaurant in Bournemouth. Guess what, it was really good. We ordered Singapore rice, prawn bites and probably some two other meat dishes. The meal was spicy (which I like. I mean it just feels perfect) and really tasty :) Prices are affordable and the couple who is doing the restaurant is so friendly and they are native Chinese so it feels so authentic once you go inside. Specially, I liked the decorations on the walls. Obviously, the atmosphere is so charming :) At the bottom line, I would like to say that it’s just near the Uni so everyone should come there and try this lovely restaurant:)

All the meal tasted nice! But the lemon tea was too expensive, a glass of lemon tea was cost £4.45 And usually there is no service charge, the boss suddenly said that there are more people today, so there is an additional service charge, but there is only our table in the whole shop……

Ok, first of all THE FOOD IS TOP TIER, AS AN ASIAN THIS FOOD IS IMMACULATE, all the other people brought what seems to be lunch boxes, so go here during dinner and they will serve you right, and the staff is a Cantonese couple which they make us feel like valued customers and the decor is nice. To the people who rated this below 3 stars are respectfully TRIPPING

I had the takeaway lunch box special. I left the choice of selection up to the chef. The food is simply excellent! Just the right portion size, and tasty is not the word.
